Ripe cherries with an herbacous edge and aromatic finish. Rich and easy on the palate with complex notes of rosemary, cured meats and a beguiling structure with a sweet cherry fruit core.
Ernie Els is one of the most successful golfers in the history of the game, having won more than 65 tournaments since turning professional in 1989, including two US Opens, two Open Championships, and a record seven World Matchplay titles. The international scope of Ernie's victories is second to none. He is one of golf’s truly global players. Ernie was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011.
His classic, powerful golf swing is universally admired, and aspired to, from both sides of the ropes. And while his easy-going nature masks a fierce competitive drive, it is all of these qualities, along with an engaging on-course persona, that have helped make Ernie one of the most popular golfers in the game today.
Through his many travels around the globe Ernie Els had been exposed to and appreciated some of the world’s greatest wines, a developing interest which inevitably led in one direction – in 1999 the concept of Ernie Els Wines was born. As one of South Africa’s leading ambassadors and most recognizable of faces in the world of sport, it was fitting that Ernie should choose Stellenbosch to produce his wines, with vineyards located high up on the northern slopes of the Helderberg Mountain. The stunning new winery opened at the end of 2004. With the help of award-winning winemaker Louis Story. They produced the maiden 2000 vintage of Ernie Els – a ‘classic’ Bordeaux blend. The intention from the outset was to focus on delivering a quality product that could hold its own in the company of the world’s finest wines.
As demand for Ernie’s wines has grown, so has the range. Available to enjoy in Ernie's own restaurant "The Big Easy" in downtown Stellenbosch we are delighted to bring you the range of wines to enjoy. Might we suggest the Big Easy Red – a delicious, fruit driven red blend, perhaps the refreshing Big Easy Chenin Blanc or our favourite, the Proprietors Blend.
You'll not be disappointed.
